This is the vehicle i've chosen. Its a 1999 LHD 1.3 Maestro, with 31,000 kms on the clock (about 19k miles). The car was built in Bulgaria as a CKD kit from Rover, but was brought to the UK by Apple 2000 and sold as new in 1999. It was used for 2 years before being bought by a Maestro enthusiast who intended to reshell his MG Turbo into this, but it never happened.
So I ended up with it, tidied it up and got it an MOT. It is pretty much rust free, which is amazing considering its been laid up for the past 8 years.
It seemed an ideal car for the job because it was built for the Bulgarian market. Its LHD, has got raised suspension and bigger wheels for good ground clearance, a low ratio gearbox for hilly roads, and a low compression ratio so it can run on crap fuel.
