Opito Optimists

Hullo all,
Well we are off again on another adventure drive. So smitten were we with the Silk Route last year, on our drive to Calcutta, that we are taking part in a charity rally to Tajikistan. Liz's cousin Richard Scanlon is coming along for the ride and generally scare the natives where necessary.

The idea this time is that you give the car away when you arrive, so sorry the yellow Porsche is staying locked up in the garage. We have purchased a very nice Renault Clio, which comes with all mod cons including the essential very good air conditioning. I have had the car fully serviced so it really is up for the journey.

Our route this year will take us through Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan across the Caspian to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and into Tajikistan. After hand the Clio over to the Save the Children officials in Dushanbe we will continue down into he Pamir region and possibly into Afghanistan. We return by way of the more conventional Kazakstan, Russia and Ukraine in the Toyota Landcruiser

We have committed not only to giving the car to the charity, but also to raising more money.
This is where you dear friends come in. We thought that you might wish to support the charity as well with a small donation on the basis that we make it successfully to Dushanbe. Something in the order of 10 - 50 euros/pounds/dollars  will go a long way in Tajikistan.

To incentivise you we have had some caps and tee shirts made up, the top 10 donations will get their choice!

As usual you can keep up with our journey by way of Liz's excellent blog.
